Montauk NY is a small fishing town at at the easternmost tip of Long Island. It's a destination for many because of its location, seafood, surfing, and feeling of escape. There is also an underlying layer of the town that is steeped in mystery and lore involving ghost stories and conspiracy theories centered around the old air force base. One of these tales involves the significance August 12th and events that are said to have happened there on this date in times past. I feel a personal connection to this place every time I visit to get away from the city. Part of it is based in questions of these legends. Incidentally, August 12th is also the peak of the Perseids meteor shower which occurs the same time every year. Because of my equal interest in space, astronomy and the unknown, I travel to Montauk to see this meteor shower every chance I get. There are no meteors in these photos. They are glimpses of my experiences with people and places within this town during these visits.
